This is the first time that an Iranian official has recognized that US sanctions have prevented any oil export from the country.

“

They do not allow us to export a drop of oil to buy food or medicine, and even if we sell it, we cannot get the money back,

” Iranian Vice President Mohammad Bagher Nobakht said.

After leaving the 2015 nuclear deal, the United States imposed very heavy economic and banking sanctions against Iran, in particular to prevent any oil export from the country.

Until then, Iranian officials have always maintained that Iran has the means to circumvent US sanctions, even though oil exports have declined.

Despite UN opposition, US sanctions affect Iran

These statements come as the United States is trying, despite the opposition of European countries, Russia and China, signatories to the nuclear agreement, to reactivate UN sanctions against Iran.

In recent weeks, thirteen of the fifteen members of the United Nations Security Council have

opposed the American attempts

.

This does not prevent US sanctions and threats from hitting the Iranian economy hard.

Thus, inflation got out of control and the value of the Iranian currency has been in free fall for a year.
