This crime had caused deep emotion in the country. On May 21, Romina Achrafi was killed in her sleep by her father who beheaded her for a matter of honor.

Romina's father has been sentenced to nine years in prison while her mother demands the execution of her husband. A justice official said the maximum sentence had been imposed on the father and the case had been treated in a special way.

No death penalty for an infanticide father

According to the Ilna news agency , the Iranian penal code does not provide for the death penalty for an infanticide father, but only prison terms and fines.

The young girl had left the family home to go with a man about fifteen years older than her after her father refused to let them marry. She was killed after being found and taken home. According to Iranian law, the minimum age for marriage is 13 for women, but the father's consent is required.
