TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer has resigned. General manager Vanessa Pappas will replace him on an interim basis, according to the Financial Times newspaper.

The Chinese microvideos application had signed the veteran Walt Disney executive in early June to consolidate its business in the West. The resignation comes days after TikTok sued the Trump administration over an executive order prohibiting transactions in the United States with the popular video-sharing app.

Trump recently said that the Chinese video app could be being used to spy on Americans .

Mayer, who is CEO of Disney, was the executive behind the successful launch of Disney +, the streaming service with which the company has stood up to Netflix and which has managed to reach 50 million subscribers in its first five months. Mayer was a weighty manager in the company and his name sounded in the pools of the candidates to succeed Bog Iger at the head of the entertainment giant, a position that eventually went to Bob Chapek. Mayer has been behind purchases like Pixar, Marvel and 21st Century Fox.

In addition to being the CEO of Tik Tok, Mayer was also the COO of ByteDance, reporting directly to Yiming Zhang, the founder and CEO of the Chinese group.
