Plug-in hybrid SUVs that can carry up to 7 occupants are quite rare on the market. But like its petrol and diesel counterparts, the Kia Sorento PHEV (plug-in hybrid) can accommodate 5 or 7 passengers, as desired. This means that the battery will take up quite little space on board. Let's check with the figures put forward by the Korean manufacturer: with the two rows of seats folded down, the 7-seater model will have a boot of 809 liters against 898 liters for the 5-seater models. With the 7 seats installed, the trunk volume will drop to 175 liters.
Still in the approval phase
Under the hood, the 1.6 liter turbo petrol engine (180 hp) will be combined with an electric motor (66.9 kW / 91 hp) for a total power of 265 hp. The battery capacity is 13.8 kWh but the electric range has not yet been announced. To be in agreement with the market, we dare to hope that it will be at least 50 km. The verdict will fall when the Kia Sorento has completed its development and homologation phase.
Its marketing is scheduled for 2021, with the now traditional warranty of 7 years or 150,000 km.
