Unemployment in France fell in July, according to figures from Pôle Emploi published on Wednesday. The number of job seekers registered in category A in France (excluding Mayotte), that is to say having no job, fell by 4.1% compared to June. As in May and June, this drop can be explained in particular by the fact that some unemployed people have resumed reduced or partial activity.
The number of job seekers who carried out a reduced activity during the month (categories B and C) continues to increase (+129,400). In total, the workforce in categories A, B and C is decreasing (-44,900), for the first time since March 2020, underlines Dares, the statistical service of the Ministry of Labor.
Increase in the number of unemployed in training.
Unemployment remains very high, with 4 million unemployed in category A, after the sharp increases linked to the coronavirus crisis.
The number of unemployed applicants not required to look for a job (category D), due in particular to training, illness or a professional security contract (CSP), increased sharply in July (+38,600 , i.e. + 13%), under the effect of an increase in the number of job seekers in training.
Finally, the unemployed required to look for a job (category E), their number continues to decline (-6,800, after -8,300 in June).
