A new scandal in sight? Porsche has opened an internal investigation into irregularities in the engines of certain car models, according to information from Bild and  Handelsblatt, relayed by Capital . The legendary Porsche 911 and the Panamera sedan would be affected.

The manipulations concern gasoline engines and would have had consequences on the actual quantity of CO2 released by cars. The engines and software would have been rigged to modify the exhaust systems.

A second Dieselgate in sight?

These modifications, carried out after the homologation of the engines, would have resulted in an increase in the levels of CO2 emissions. Affected models were produced between 2008 and 2013, but recent vehicles would not be affected. Porsche has not communicated on the total number of cars affected by the possible fraud.

Porsche, owned by Volkswagen, has informed the Federal Transport Authority in Germany (KBA), the prosecutor's office and the US authorities in the interests of transparency. As part of the Dieselgate, the German manufacturer was fined 535 million euros for having rigged several diesel engines.
