Sales outlets and cooperative societies in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman have recently offered discounts ranging between 20 and 70%, in preparation for the return to school season, at a time when the officials of these outlets and cooperatives confirmed that the rates of discounts are high, compared to the same period last year, supported by an increase Competitiveness between sales outlets.

In a field tour, "Emirates Today" monitored the inclusion of food commodities such as dairy products, canned juices, rice, edible oils, frozen poultry, and processed meats, in addition to school supplies such as bags and stationery, cash prizes and raffles, as well as vouchers for purchases.

Discounts offers

In detail, consumer Naji Abdel-Shafi said that he buys the requirements for the new school season gradually, due to factors related to the offered offers and their availability in sales outlets, in addition to the fact that some food commodities are preferred to be bought a few days before school entry.

In turn, consumer Islam Saad said that some sales outlets offered discounts ranging between 20 and 70%, stressing that they exceeded the offers offered during the past year.

He pointed out that the largest proportions of the discounts are concentrated in school supplies, such as bags and stationery, in addition to shoes, with variation in the goods covered by the discounts from one port to another.

As for the consumer, Ghada Khalil, she indicated that she prefers to buy from a different outlet, in order to benefit from the offers, noting the variation in commodity prices and the rates of discounts between sales outlets.

She pointed out that there are discounts of up to 70% on school bags, at a time when discounts at encouraging rates on school shoes are not available in some outlets, but they are available in other outlets.

«Lulu Group»

In addition, Nanda Kumar, Director of Corporate Communication Department at “Lulu Commercial Centers Group,” said that the group had offered discounts for the back-to-study season, with rates up to 70%, on various commodities, including food products and school supplies.

Kumar emphasized that the rates of discounts are currently high, compared to the corresponding period last year, supported by high competition among sales outlets.

He attributed the discrepancy between the types of goods covered by reductions and the difference in their ratios between sales outlets, to marketing policies and supply agreements.

Carrefour outlets

For his part, the director of "Carrefour Emirates" at "Majid Al Futtaim Retail Company", Philip Pigeon, said that "Carrefour" outlets offer, during the back-to-school season, discounts exceeding 50% on school supplies.

He added: “In light of the spread of the (Covid-19) pandemic, the need for sterilization and hygiene products increases, so Carrefour outlets have made available within their offer a hygiene group that is easy to use in the school, and will contribute to protecting students from the transmission of the virus,” pointing out that these Offers will continue until September 15th.

He pointed out that "Carrefour" outlets focused their current offers on school supplies, as well as on prices appropriate for all.

He emphasized that "Carrefour" outlets offer many prizes, as they allow customers who buy a smart phone at a price of 200 dirhams or more to enter a draw on "Jeep" cars, in addition to the possibility of winning shopping vouchers when purchasing a group of selected products.

«Emirates Cooperative»

In the same context, the Director General of the Emirates Cooperative Society, Muhammad Yusuf Al-Khaja, said that the "cooperative" will offer discounts on the occasion of the return to school season at rates ranging between 40 and 60%, pointing out that it will start from August 24 until the fifth of next September.

He added that the offers include food commodities, most notably vegetables, fruits, juices, cheese and dairy products, biscuits, and a number of approved foods that conform to the standards of a number of private schools, in addition to office supplies, bags and basic consumer goods.

Al-Khaja attributed the high rates of discounts now compared to the same period last year, to the competitiveness of sales outlets to attract shoppers, and the desire of a number of supply companies to increase sales.
