JR Tokai started a driving test of a new vehicle of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, which was improved for commercial operation, from the 17th on an experimental line in Yamanashi prefecture.

JR Tokai is carrying out a running test on the Linear Chuo Shinkansen to check the performance of the vehicle on an experimental line of more than 40 kilometers in Yamanashi Prefecture.

The driving test was suspended from October last year to introduce a new improved vehicle, but it was resumed from the 17th.

The new vehicle is an improved version of the existing vehicle called the "L0 series", which has a rounded shape due to the shape of the tip, as well as changes in the positions of the headlights and the camera that checks the front.

This will reduce air resistance by approximately 13%, which will lead to reductions in power consumption and noise.

On the 17th day of the first day, the safety of the vehicle was confirmed, and the maximum speed was about 300 km.

The restart of the driving test was delayed by about 3 months due to the influence of the new coronavirus, but it does not have a big impact on the overall schedule, so we will continue driving tests with new vehicles in the future.

On the other hand, with regard to the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, due to difficulties in the discussions between JR Tokai and the prefecture regarding construction in Shizuoka prefecture, the planned opening in 2027 has become difficult.
