According to him, there is no consensus among European countries regarding the construction of the gas pipeline.

Earlier, the EU stated that they were developing a mechanism to counter the sanctions of third countries, including those directed against the gas pipeline project.

In the summer of 2018, then Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser called for a halt to the construction of Nord Stream 2. 

He called the gas pipeline a lever by which Russia "will penetrate European politics."
