Just Eat Takeaway, parent company of Thuisbezorgd.nl, among others, processed 32 percent more orders in the first half of this year. Nevertheless, the company had to take a loss of 158 million euros, according to the semi-annual figures published on Wednesday.

The loss is related to the additional costs the company had to incur for the integration of meal delivery company Just Eat, which was acquired at the beginning of this year. There were also additional expenses for the purchase of meal delivery company Grubhub, the acquisition of which is currently in full swing.

In the first six months of this year, Just Eat Takeaway was able to significantly increase its turnover. Worldwide, 257 million orders have been delivered, an increase of 32 percent compared to the same period last year.

Especially in the second quarter a clear increase in the number of orders was seen. The global lockdown measures due to the COVID-19 outbreak played an important role in this.

The revenues even grew by 44 percent and amounted to 1 billion euros.

In the first six months of this year, the company processed 23 million orders in the Netherlands. That was 24 percent more than in the same period last year. The average amount per order also increased. Turnover in the Netherlands amounted to 80 million euros, 40 percent more than in the first half of 2019.
