• INE. The sale of homes fell 39.2% in April due to the closure of the coronavirus

The sale of homes managed to moderate its fall in June after the stoppage of operations caused by the confinement against the coronavirus. In the sixth month of the year, with all the territories in the process of de-escalation, a total of 27,221 transactions were closed , 34.3% less than in the same month of the previous year.

This is the fourth consecutive month with setbacks in the market, after registering a drop of 18.6% in March, 39.2% in April and 53.7% in May, according to data from the National Statistics Institute ( INE) published this Friday.

The closure to prevent the spread of the pandemic paralyzed the start of new sales operations since March, so that in those months most of the transactions that were closed were those that were already underway before confinement. However, the INE warns in its note that the 2020 data is provisional and will be revised when the data for the same period next year are released. "That is, when the data for June 2021 is published, the final data for the same month of 2020 will be released."

Used housing remains the majority option (80.1%) compared to new housing (19.9%). All in all, the situation affected used housing more, whose sales fell by 36.4%, than new homes (-24.5%).

On the other hand, 91.2% of the houses transferred by merchanting in June are free and 8.8% protected.

By communities, all presented negative annual rates in June. The smallest decreases occurred in La Rioja (-8.9%), the Basque Country (-12.4%) and Extremadura (-14.2%), while the Canary Islands (-41.8%), the Valencian Community (- 43.9%) and Galicia (-44.8%) registered the greatest decreases.
