The Pizza Express chain of restaurants announced today that it is considering closing about 70 restaurants in Britain, which means that up to 1,100 jobs will be removed.

The company was forced to make this decision due to the Corona pandemic and its efforts to restructure its large debts.

"This decision is very difficult," the company said, in a statement. "But in the current unprecedented conditions, Pizza Express believes that reducing the size of its assets will help it protect 9,000 jobs."

The company was founded in 1965, has 449 restaurants in Britain, and operates restaurants in many other countries.

The catering company closed all its restaurants in Britain on March 23, following the government-imposed closure, but it has reopened many of them recently.
It should be noted that since July 2014 the company is owned by the Chinese investment company, "Honey Capital".
