The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has stated that it thwarted 432,219 cyber attacks on websites in the country during the first seven months of this year, after the escalation of attacks by cyber criminals trying to exploit the repercussions of the emerging Corona virus crisis (Covid-19)

In a report issued today, the commission clarified that it was able to prevent and thwart 120,000 and 38 cyber attacks during the month of July alone, and that the attacks varied between malware, security holes, phishing or fraud and electronic fraud

And the commission revealed that the malware attacks constituted 78% of the total attacks that it thwarted, which are programs that are created with the aim of destroying or affecting systems and programs or obtaining powers in them illegally.

Malware includes: viruses, malicious ransomware, and spyware. Attacks also included searches for security vulnerabilities of 11%, which are software errors in systems that can be exploited by criminals to tamper with systems and influence them, in addition to 11% of phishing attacks, which is a process that reckons The criminal has the status of reliable companies or entities to trick the user into submitting his private data such as the password and bank card, through false messages or websites.

The authority indicated that it had succeeded in treating 181 cyber incidents during last July, 6 of which were severe, 46 medium attacks and 129 low-impact attacks. The most common incidents were security vulnerabilities, unauthorized entry and unauthorized activity.
