To support the automotive sector, hit by the coronavirus crisis, the state had decided to increase the conversion premium until Monday. This has enabled electric vehicles to sell better, as explained by Jérôme Daumont, owner of around twenty dealerships in Île-de-France.

DECRYPTION

After having benefited 200,000 households during the coronavirus crisis, the conversion bonus is refocusing on the most modest households, with tightened allocation conditions and reduced amounts. But this state aid, extended after confinement to encourage the French to buy cars, has helped boost sales of electric vehicles. This is what Jérôme Daumont, owner of about twenty concessions in Île-de-France, interviewed by Europe 1 noted.

A level of aid never seen before

"There have been several effects which have been added to each other and which have contributed to a real development of sales of electric vehicles", assures the professional. "There was an increase in the bonus for individuals and companies. This allowed up to 12,000 euros in aid, excluding local aid."

A level "never known on the market", before a return on Monday to lower premiums: 5,000 euros in aid if the tax income is less than 6,300 euros or if the buyer is a "big wheeler" for work. For those who are above the ceiling, the amount of the premium is 2,500 euros.

Previous aid has therefore made it possible to inflate the figures for professionals hit hard by the economic crisis. "We had a sales level which increased sharply in electric vehicles", continues Jérôme Daumont. At the national level, the month of June was a peak with 14,000 registrations. The one in July confirmed the good shape of the market, with nearly 10,000 registrations.

"Awareness"

How to explain this craze? The dealer interviewed by Europe 1 identifies several factors, on the side of the French and companies. First, "there was an awareness of people" on the ecological added value of electric cars over thermal cars. In addition, "we can see a development of the offer, because many manufacturers have come with electrical products that they did not have before, such as Peugeot or Renault's Zoe, recently renewed".

Buyers more convinced, a range of vehicles more expanded and rejuvenated ... For Jérôme Daumont, "State aid came at the right time to help accelerate the penetration of electric vehicles in the fleet. It is a very good thing".
