Mercedes S-Class - DR

The next Mercedes S-Class will therefore be the first car to carry front airbags for rear passengers. These will be located and triggered from the back of the front passenger seat. This is a world first. We should also mention the new median airbag (variable equipment depending on the country) which deploys between the driver's seat and that of the front passenger in the event of a serious side collision, thus reducing the risk of heads colliding.

In terms of protection and assistance, we still learn that the new S-Class will benefit from steering rear wheels to facilitate low-speed maneuvers. The turning circle would be reduced by 2 meters, which is significant.

Finally, in the event of a side collision, the new E-Active Body suspension will allow the S-Class to rise by 8 cm so that the structure can absorb the shock and protect the passengers. The system control unit is able to analyze the situation 1,000 times per second to adapt the suspension.

All this equipment will be offered as an option depending on the market. The Mercedes S-Class will be unveiled next September.
