Consumer sentiment Continued low level of index increase for 3 consecutive months 20:50 on July 31st

The “Consumer Attitude Index” in July, which indicates consumers' willingness to shop, exceeded the previous month and increased for the third consecutive month. Regarding the consumer sentiment, the Cabinet Office has left the keynote judgment that "although it is still difficult, it is still picking up."

Every month, the Cabinet Office asks 8,400 households nationwide for their half-year lifestyle and motivation for shopping, and quantifies them as a "Consumer Attitude Index".

As a result, the index of households with two or more people in July was 29.5, 1.1 points higher than the previous month and rising for the third consecutive month.

However, the rate of increase has shrunk compared to the previous month when it was the largest ever, and it is the fourth lowest level since April 2013 when statistics can be compared.

The Cabinet Office has left the basic judgment on consumer sentiment since the previous month, saying, "Although it is still tough, the recovery is continuing."

The Cabinet Office said, "The number of people infected with the new coronavirus is increasing, and the fact that heavy rain disasters occurred in various places may have affected consumer sentiment, so it remains at a low level."
