Increase in sales of non-alcoholic beverages “Beer” sales decreased due to corona impact July 23, 16:31

While beer sales have fallen sharply due to the spread of new coronavirus infections, sales of non-alcoholic beverages have been increasing recently, and the expansion of the non-alcoholic market is attracting attention as a result of rising health consciousness.

According to beer makers, the market for beer-based beverages has shrunk for the 15th consecutive year until last year, but non-alcoholic beer has grown about four times in the last 10 years.

In particular, in the first half of the year, sales volume of beer-based beverages fell by about 10% compared to the same period last year, while non-alcoholic beer increased by about 6%.

Under these circumstances, sales of non-alcoholic beer from the 1st to the 20th of this month at home electronics mass retailers, which have a sales floor exclusively for non-alcoholic beverages, increased by approximately 60% compared to the same period last year.

Among them, products that claim functionality such as “reducing visceral fat” have sold five times more than last year.

"It seems that there is growing demand for people who are worried about their tummy because of the lack of exercise due to the restraint of going out," said Yuichi Fukuda, chief of Bic Liquor Sales.

Regarding non-alcoholic beverages, Kewpie, a food maker, has begun selling beer and highball flavored beverages exclusively for online shopping this month, and sales competition among different industries is likely to intensify.
