Amazon has announced this Tuesday that it will create some 2,000 new permanent jobs in Spain in 2020. If the forecast is met, at the end of this year the multinational e-commerce company would add a staff of 9,000 employees in the country.

Specifically, these new jobs include positions at all skill levels and profiles, from entry-level operations positions to engineers, software developers, data scientists, and cloud computing experts.

The vice president and general director of amazon.es, Mariangela Marseglia , has highlighted the multinational's commitment to Spain. "Our long-term commitment to Spain remains strong and, as part of our plans approved months ago, we are going to continue creating a considerable number of quality jobs," he said.

"We are delighted to welcome 2,000 new colleagues in a particularly difficult year. I am particularly excited about the launch of new logistics centers in areas that have historically suffered from high unemployment rates," said Marseglia.

Thus, the 'e-commerce' platform plans to open two new logistics centers this year that will be located in Dos Hermanas (Seville) and Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), as well as three logistics stations in Murcia, Rubí (Barcelona ) and Leganés (Madrid).

The company is also expanding its Madrid Tech Hub , in which more than 300 developers and computer engineers work on software applications for Amazon Business, reading technologies and Kindle, as well as technology for retail sales.

For its part, Amazon Web Services will open a new AWS Europe region with a data center located in Aragon, which will be operational between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023.

GENERATED 82,000 INDIRECT JOBS UNTIL 2019

In addition to the direct jobs Amazon creates in Spain, a study by the strategy and economy consultancy Keystone estimates that the companies that participate in its supply chain, which include from construction services, real estate to professional services, generated 82,000 jobs. additional until the end of 2019.

This figure also includes employees who work for the more than 8,000 Spanish SMEs that currently sell their products on the platform.

"Our operations in Spain are having a significant domino effect, it is not just the direct opportunities that we provide. In this way, Amazon, which continues to strengthen its commitment to Spain, has a network that spans more than 28 different centers, including logistics and distribution centers, logistics stations, corporate offices, software development centers and an R&D center.
