At the end of 2019, 19.6 million people worldwide had assets to invest greater than or equal to one million US dollars. The main residence, consumer goods and collectibles are not included in the calculation of the fortune of its millionaires.

This figure is up 8.6% compared to 2018, indicates the World Wealth Report published by Capgemini on Thursday. The document shows that the number of very wealthy French people has grown faster than this world average.

First time since 2012

Between 2018 and 2019, France indeed recorded an 11% increase in the number of its millionaires. The average increase in Europe is 8.7%. The figure reaches 10.9% in North America.

These two regions therefore experienced a greater increase in the number of millionaires than the Asia-Pacific region, where the increase was 7.6%. It is the first time since 2012 that such a situation has been observed.

France in fifth position

However, the Asia-Pacific region is still home to a larger number of very wealthy people than other parts of the globe. Capgemini puts forward the figure of 6.5 million individuals at the head of assets whose value reaches at least a million dollars.

In France, the number of very wealthy people has also gone from 635,000 to 702,000 in one year, which places France in fifth place in the world ranking. The United States leads the ranking ahead of Japan, which is ahead of Germany and China. These four countries alone account for 62% of the world's millionaires.
