More and more widespread, the car without a license has advantages: it consumes little, is easily parked in town, protects from bad weather and allows to circumvent legally the driving license. More secure than a two-wheeler, the cart can be useful for getting around in an urban environment.
A practical model
A car without a license is a small car, the body of which is made of light fibers, which include only two seats, has a payload of 250 kg maximum, is equipped with an engine with a maximum power of 6 kW and cannot exceed 45 km / h. The gearbox is automatic and the engine generally runs on diesel, but can be electric. Its consumption is therefore low.
In addition to the "sedan" model, these mini-cars are available in several forms: vans, buggies, convertibles ... On the price side, it takes between 10,000 and 18,000 euros for new. The occasion can be a good compromise because the maintenance costs are reasonable. The rental option can otherwise be interesting.
BAR is enough
Given its speed, the unlicensed car is suitable for cities and country roads. It is strictly forbidden to circulate on motorways, peripherals and other expressways. From a regulatory point of view, this “light motor quadricycle” is in fact assimilated to a moped of less than 50 cc.
The advantage is that you do not need a license or code to drive a cart. Young people can also get behind the wheel from the age of 14. On the other hand, those who were born from 1988 must at least have obtained their road safety certificate (BAR) to take orders. This corresponds to 8 hours of practical training billed between 150 and 400 euros in a driving school. Between adolescents who have not yet obtained their license and adults who have lost their license as a result of traffic violations (since the judge has not prohibited the driving of any motor vehicle, including without a license), the cart therefore attracts a fairly large clientele.

If the cart dispenses with the need to hold a driving license, you must nevertheless take certain steps to have the right to drive on public roads:
- Registration: the registration card is compulsory. The registration procedure is the same as for a classic car.
- Insurance: like any motor vehicle, the car without a license must be insured at least to a third (civil liability guarantee). Market prices are lower than for a classic car, while the bonus-penalty clause does not apply.
