The UAE ranked among the top 10 countries in the world in the global KPMG index, to measure the readiness of countries to absorb autonomous vehicles for 2020, for the third year in a row.

According to an annual study conducted by the index that assesses the level of readiness of 30 countries in the field of autonomous vehicles, the UAE ranked eighth of the current year, one place ahead of last year, despite the addition of five countries, where it advanced ahead of the United Kingdom and Denmark, while it came after Singapore, the Netherlands, Norway and the states States, Finland, Sweden, and South Korea.

The study evaluated in the 2020 edition the level of readiness and openness in different countries, regarding the application of autonomous vehicle technology, and the extent of its progress to make self-driving cars a reality.

A statement issued yesterday clarified that the list of the main indicators used to measure the readiness and progress of countries regarding enhancing autonomous vehicle technology and adopting the latest innovations, including both policies and legislation, technology and innovation, as well as infrastructure and consumer acceptance.

The statement pointed out that, in light of the efforts made by the most innovative countries to make self-driving cars a reality, the UAE recorded the highest percentage of 30 countries in terms of its readiness to implement technology infrastructure, the speed of mobile phone data under the infrastructure pillar, in addition to the readiness of individuals under The admission pillar, in addition to ranking the country third in terms of the efficiency measure in the legal system in terms of objecting to legislation.

Ravi Suri, partner and global head of the infrastructure financing division at KBMG Lower Gulf, said: “The initiatives implemented by the UAE government in developing smart technologies have played a big role in making automation and autonomous vehicles a tangible reality.”
