Jiangcun, located in Qidu Town, Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, is one of many small villages in southern Jiangsu. This small village has an area of only 4.5 square kilometers and a population of less than 3,000 people, but it is a window for Chinese and foreign scholars to understand and study rural China.

The original name of Jiangcun is Kaixuan Bow Village. The crooked Xiaoqing River passes through the village like a bow full of bows, from which the village name comes. In July 1936, Fei Xiaotong came to the village and conducted a two-month investigation around this small village, and finally wrote "The Life of Chinese Farmers" (that is, "Jiangcun Economy"). Since then, Jiang Cun and sociologist Fei Xiaotong have become famous at home and abroad.

Fei Xiaotong visited Kaixiangong Village 26 times in his life, and the village has left the footprint of his investigation and research everywhere. Villager Yao Fukun didn’t expect that he participated in the reception of Fei Xiaotong’s visit 24 times, and he changed from being a “researched person” to a “researcher”. ".

In the eyes of Yao Fukun at the age of 70, Jiangcun has already reached a well-off level. Villagers live in small villas, drive cars, and don’t worry about food and clothing. Many wealthy villagers also bought houses in the town. In 2019, the per capita disposable income of villagers will be around 40,000 yuan. "This is still a relatively conservative figure," Yao Fukun said.

Today, nearly 20 years after Fei Xiaotong's last visit to Jiangcun, Jiangcun also contains new changes. For example, in terms of industry, Jiangcun has formed three leading industries of chemical fiber textiles, cardigan weaving and aquaculture in recent years. Another example is that farmers in Jiangcun have rarely engaged in agricultural activities. They contract the land and collect rent every year.

Jiangcun is still a window for scholars to study the life of Chinese farmers. Since the first survey base appeared in Kaixuan Village in 1981, 25 colleges and universities have set up practice survey bases here. Yao Fukun receives tens of thousands of visitors every year.

Shen Bin, the secretary of the village party committee, said that Jiangcun is accelerating the construction of cultural auditorium, Jiangcun market, and research and study projects. In 2019, Jiangcun Cultural Auditorium has been renovated and has been put into use. It has held a number of events; in April this year, the Jiangcun B&B Alliance was officially established to enhance the carrying capacity of rural tours and research tours, and to infuse the meaning of "China Jiangcun" culture. vitality.

The "footprint road" of Jiangcun was the village road that Fei Xiaotong often took. Jiangcun people walked into the village yesterday, today and tomorrow along the trail. Generation after generation told their own "Jiangcun story".

"Post-80s" Zhou Chunyan returned to the village as a woman director after graduating from university. She was active in the streets of the village every day and served the villagers well. "Post-90s" Yao Lingchao returned to the village to open an online shop after graduation, and sold the sweaters produced in the village to all parts of the country, becoming a new generation of idols. These young people are injecting new vitality into this traditional village. (Finish)
