Economic trend index Decreased for 4 consecutive months Impact of employment deterioration due to corona July 7 16:37

The Cabinet Office announced the economic trend index for May this year, and the index showing the current state of the economy fell 5.5 points from the previous month. The index has declined for the fourth consecutive month because the employment situation has deteriorated due to the spread of the new coronavirus.

According to the May economic trend index released by the Cabinet Office, the “concordance index” showing the current state of the economy was 74.6, with 2015 as 100.

It was 5.5 points below the previous month, which lowered the index for the fourth straight month.

As a result of the spread of infection, the “effective job openings-to-applicants ratio”, which shows how many job offers from companies, decreased to 1.20 times for one person seeking a job, and the employment situation deteriorated and the production of automobiles, etc. I was affected by the depression.

For this reason, the current state-of-the-art judgment of the economy, which is mechanically derived from the movement of the index, has become a “deterioration” that indicates the possibility of a recession.

This is the tenth consecutive month that the "deterioration" has been judged.

On the other hand, the "leading index", which shows the outlook for the economy in the next few months, rose 1.6 points from the previous month to 79.3, rising for the first time in 3 months, due to an improvement in indicators that indicate consumer sentiment.
