In Korea, surgery to transplant the lung into a patient whose lung was broken with Corona 19 was successful.

It is the first time in Korea and the ninth in the world.

Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital announced on the 21st of last month that it had succeeded in transplanting lungs into a woman in her 50s who had undergone lung fibrosis with Corona 19.

According to the hospital, six patients in China, one in the United States, and one in Austria are the ninth cases of corona19 lung transplantation.

The patient was urgently evacuated to Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital on February 29th as a severe corona19 patient.

The next day, the condition worsened significantly enough to wear Ekmo (external membrane oxygenation device, ECMO).

The corona19 virus quickly disappeared from the patient's body, but the condition continued to deteriorate, resulting in lung fibrosis that hardened the lungs.

This patient had a'positive' in the corona19 diagnostic test only once in early March after admission, and was'negative' ever since.

Eventually, the patient received Ekmo treatment for 112 days from March 1, the day after hospitalization, to June 20, the day before lung transplantation.

The hospital is said to be the world's longest Ekmo patient among Corona19 patients.

Despite prolonged treatment of Ekmo, lung transplantation has ended successfully.

The patient has now recovered enough to breathe on his own.

We are also doing rehabilitation exercises to rebuild muscle strength weakened by long bedtime.

Professor Hyung-Soo Kim of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, said, "It was the best case in Korea among the 19 patients in Corona." Please continue your efforts to keep social distance and wear a mask."
