• Economy: Abengoa's Ultimatum: agreement with its creditors in 14 days or bankruptcy

Siemens Gamesa has announced that it will close its wind power plant in Aoiz (Navarra) , where 239 people work. The company indicates that it makes the decision due to "its high costs and its geographical location, more than 200 kilometers from the nearest port", which "make its competitiveness for export unfeasible".

In a statement to the National Securities Market Commission ( CNMV ), Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Eólica (SGRE Eólica) has announced "its intention to initiate a collective dismissal procedure to proceed with the extinction of the workplace in Aoiz".

For all these reasons, it will launch an Employment Regulation File (ERE) for a maximum of 239 people , starting in the next few days the negotiations with the workers' representatives.

"After analyzing all the possible options in the last few months, we have concluded that there is no other possible alternative . In the current circumstances, we have the obligation to take the necessary measures to guarantee the long-term viability of this company, as well such as the employment of the more than 24,000 people who work with us around the world, including nearly 5,000 in Spain, "explains the CEO of the Onshore division, Alfonso Faubel.

The company also recalls that this decision is not directly related to the Covid-19 crisis , although it admits that the effects of the pandemic on Siemens Gamesa's operations and commercial activity "have accentuated the need to act."

The company has recently announced the termination of the seventy eventual contracts it had in Aoiz and the three in Cuenca , which increased the unions' concern about the company's future plans for both factories, which focus most of its activity in the repair and maintenance of wind blades.

The Government of Navarra conveys its "deep unease" at the closure of Siemens in Aoiz

The Government of Navarra has transferred its "deep unease" after learning about Siemens Gamesa's decision to close the Aoiz plant. In this context, the Provincial Administration has indicated that it is in contact with the Government of Spain to analyze all the possibilities in this situation from the perspective of the general interest.

The Administration has also indicated that it will maintain the necessary contacts both with the company, and with the representatives of the workers and the central Administration, to work in the search and definition of the best possibilities for action.
