He informed that on Tuesday, June 30 a “significant event” took place, when the energy ministers of the two countries, Alexander Novak and Viktor Karankevich, met.

“And it seemed to me that understanding was ripe. According to the reports yesterday, I realized that there was an understanding that we need to move on and move towards a single gas market, ”the diplomat said.

According to him, Belarus is currently not satisfied with Russian gas prices and disagreements with Gazprom.

“But we see that there is understanding, and we believe that such a task should be set: by January 1, 2022, we must solve the problem that we set in 2017,” added Semashko.

Earlier, Belarus announced the need for a “price review” of Russian gas. 

On June 5, Minsk sent Gazprom a letter with proposals on the terms of gas supplies in 2020.
