  • The Michelin group must close its factory by 2020, thus depriving the territory of 613 jobs.
  • He undertakes to pay aid of 3.7 million euros to recreate jobs and compensate for this loss.

We will have to compensate for his departure. The Michelin group signed on Tuesday with the State an agreement to revitalize the La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée) employment area. Objective: recreate 613 jobs in this region where its factory will close by the end of 2020.

"This aid amounts to 3.7 million euros, the maximum amount in the event of a site closure," said Michelin in a press release. Whatever happens, "the entire amount will be spent, it is regulatory," said Thierry Martin-Lassagne, director of Michelin Development France when signing the document.

"Through this bilateral agreement, the Michelin group has made a commitment to help financially, over three years, to the creation of as many jobs as those lost by the territory due to the closure of the site", details for its part the prefecture in its press release.

Direct and indirect aid

The brand in the Bibendum had announced in October 2019 the closure of the La Roche-sur-Yon factory and an agreement on the conditions of departure of employees was signed in January. The approximately 600 people concerned must be accompanied to find a job on other Michelin sites in France and with a new employer.

Regardless of the support for its employees, the company is required to make up for the destruction of jobs in the Vendée and this will take the form of direct (72% of the sum) and indirect (the remaining 28%) aid. These aids are intended for SMEs with fewer than 250 employees, "large groups needing less help," said Thierry Martin-Lassagne.

It could be a subsidy of 4,000 euros for each job creation or a participative loan of around 8,000 to 10,000 euros per signed permanent contract. “Subsidies will only be paid on the basis of an employment contract signed after a trial period. There will be no room for bounty hunters, ”said Thierry Martin-Lassagne.
