According to the IIHS survey, whose SUV conclusions we recently mentioned, convertibles are less often involved in road accidents (- 6%). Even better: the death rate on board a convertible would be 11% lower than that of sedans. These statistics highlight the discoveries, even if the survey also reveals that during a rollover, the probability of ejection is 43% in a cabrio against 35% in a “closed” car.
If, strangely, the death rate in accidents aboard a convertible is lower, the IIHS explains it by two main factors: the reinforcement of discoverable cars, consequently heavier than their counterparts with closed roof, and more relaxed driving on often less crowded roads.
Morality: drive cool, drive in a convertible!
