It's time for (bad) accounts. This Tuesday, Airbus must present a restructuring plan providing for massive job cuts to deal with the air transport crisis. The European aircraft manufacturer had to reduce its production rates by more than a third, due to the virtual shutdown of a still flourishing sector a few months ago, before the Covid-19 crisis.

According to AFP, which confirms information from La Tribune , this plan provides for approximately 15,000 job cuts, including a third in France, the country where the manufacturer whose headquarters is in Toulouse is the most established. The announcement should be made to unions Tuesday afternoon during an extraordinary group committee.

The targeted commercial aircraft branch

This bleeding should almost exclusively affect the commercial aviation branch of the group, also present in Defense, Space and helicopters, as well as several subsidiaries such as the French Stelia Aerospace or the German Premium Aerotec. Asked by AFP, Airbus did not comment.

Behind the aeronautics giant, thousands of suppliers, mostly small and medium-sized businesses, are affected. The equipment supplier Daher has already announced the elimination of a maximum of 1,300 positions out of the group's 10,000.

The big rival, the American Boeing, announced at the end of April its intention to cut 10% of its workforce, or 16,000 jobs, through voluntary departures and layoffs.
