Since the beginning of May, the number of contaminations has been on the rise in Iran, according to official figures. The country most affected in the Middle East by the pandemic has never decreed compulsory containment. Public events, non-essential businesses and schools were canceled or closed in March, but the government began lifting these restrictions in April, regularly calling on people to wear a mask in public.

Many provinces are now classified as "red", the highest level of alert on the authorities' risk of spreading the disease scale. These provinces have obtained the green light from the government to impose restrictions on their population on Sunday for a renewable week. As are the provinces, some of whose counties are classified as "red".

A campaign to encourage people to wear a mask

In addition, the Ministry of Health launched a campaign on Saturday "  I wear a mask  " to encourage Iranians to respect health protocols. From next Saturday and until at least July 22, wearing a mask will be made "  compulsory in covered spaces where there are groupings,  " said President Rohani at a meeting of the National Committee to Combat the pandemic retransmitted on television. A list of the places concerned should be communicated by then.

According to Deputy Minister of Health Iraj Harirchi, "  services will not be provided  " to those who do not wear masks in places such as "  government offices and shopping malls  ".
