It is observed that KEPCO will postpone the renewal of electricity bills in the second half of the year.

KEPCO held a board meeting on the 26th and postponed the reorganization of electricity bills, which it was originally planning to promote in the first half of this year.

KEPCO has abolished or reduced the mandatory usage guarantee deduction that discounts up to 4,000 won per month for households using 200 kWh or less per month, and has been promoting the introduction of a seasonal and hourly rate plan for housing that differentiates rates by season and time.

According to industry sources, KEPCO is likely to introduce fuel cost interlocking agents.

The KEPCO's board of directors announced the will on the previous day, saying that it will prepare a plan to revise the electricity bill system to reflect the changed conditions such as the spread of corona19 and the expansion of oil price volatility.

The fuel cost linkage system is a system that directly reflects fluctuations in fuel prices, such as petroleum used for electricity production, in rates.

Gas or district heating is equipped with this fare system.

This system has the advantage of inducing reasonable consumption by consumers because it pays less electricity when oil prices go down and more when it goes up.

Introduced during the recession caused by Corona 19 and the decline in oil prices, consumers can benefit from lower electricity rates.

Conversely, if the price of oil rises later, there is a possibility that the voice of dissatisfaction may increase.

KEPCO's position is that it can reduce earnings volatility due to oil prices.

Electricity rates are virtually fixed, but fuel costs have declined during low oil prices, resulting in large-scale surpluses and deficits during high oil prices.

An official from KEPCO said, "If we adjust energy prices directly to electricity prices, we will not have to raise or lower prices at once in a few years, so the price volatility will be smaller."

The plan to separately charge the cost of new and renewable energy included in the electricity bill is also being considered.

It is also implemented in some states in the United States and in the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and France.

Apart from the reorganization of the electricity tariff system, KEPCO is currently confused by the politics community's demand for a way to further ease the burden of electricity tariffs for low-income people.

This is because, since last year, the electricity bill for residential use has been cut at all times in the summer, and various welfare discount systems are being implemented.
