Small Business May Sales Continue to Severe Improvements Corona Impact June 22 16:26

According to a survey conducted by the Japan Finance Corporation, which asks small businesses such as restaurants and retailers about the monthly sales situation, the index of last month and May when the emergency declaration was released nationwide was the lowest month before the previous month. Although it has improved somewhat compared to the past, the situation remains severe.

The survey targeted small businesses and sole proprietors with less than 20 employees and subtracted the percentage of companies that said they had "saved" from the percentage of companies that said they had "increased" sales. The index is watching the changes in the situation.

The index released last month and May was minus 70.5, an improvement of 9 points from April, which was the lowest since the survey started in 1993. It seems that the declaration of emergency has been lifted nationwide, but this is the second lowest level after April.

By industry, services such as barbers, beauty salons and laundry improved by minus 70.8 to over 16 points, while restaurants decreased by minus 95.4 to just over 4 points.

According to the Japan Finance Corporation, "The self-restraint of traveling across prefectures has been alleviated nationwide, but we cannot expect a sharp recovery in consumption in the future, and we expect to continue in a difficult situation."
