The Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, has confirmed that the new law on teleworking provided by the Government will have a list of expenses that companies must assume: "It cannot be free of charge".

That work in a remote way, habitual during the confinement, would have increased the expenses of the employees, expenses that these should not face, as understood by the Minister of Labor. Therefore, as this newspaper has already stated, it advocates establishing a compensation mechanism by law.

"Expenses that we are now assuming in telecommuting have to be paid by the company . We are going to make a list that the employer has to undertake. It is likely that he will come up with invoices for proportional parts of supplies," said the minister in an interview. with El Periódico .

Díaz defends that telework is voluntary and that in no case does it violate the rights to rest or to conciliation . Although the Ministry needs to prepare different mandatory reports, the head of the branch assumes that there will be a rule in this regard: "It is going forward."

Only 5% of wage earners in Spain adopted teleworking before the coronavirus crisis, but during the three months of confinement, this remote modality has skyrocketed to around 40%. For this reason, the Government seeks to create a new regulatory framework, a process that began with the opening of the public consultation process, earlier this month.

False freelancers and ERTEs

The Executive is also preparing a law that regulates the work carried out through digital platforms , which could make some workers considered false self-employed today.

Diaz, in favor of reinforcing the SEPE staff, also spoke about the workers who have gone to ERTE due to the coronavirus and have not yet received their benefit. According to the minister, "with data from the general intervention of the State, today there is an incidence of errors, outside the SEPE, of 1%"
