Tokaido Shinkansen Next month and afterward JR Tokai June 18 18:14

JR Tokai plans to return the Tokaido Shinkansen, which has been operating less frequently due to the spread of the new coronavirus, to the normal timetable from next month.

Due to the spread of infection on the Tokaido Shinkansen, the number of users from the 1st to the 17th of this month dropped significantly by 77% compared to the same period last year, but compared with last month it decreased by 90%. It is recovering.

From the 19th, the self-restraint of traveling across prefectures will be eased nationwide, so JR Tokai plans to gradually recover the number of Tokaido Shinkansen trains in the future.

This month, we operate 310 trains per day, which is about 80% of the same month last year, but we plan to increase it to 350 trains of 95% in July and 390 trains of 97% in August.

In addition, the company planned to increase the number of "Nozomi" trains per hour, which is two more than the previous number, to a maximum of 12 trains by the timetable revision in March this year.

Until now, it has not been realized due to the spread of infection, but it is expected that 12 trains will be operated for the first time in the Bon Festival in August.

Shin Kaneko, President of JR Tokai, said in a press conference, "I think that if self-restraint is lifted, the number of people moving will increase. Because some people want to avoid crowded trains, the boarding rate is low for the time being. Even so, I want to be able to sit comfortably."
