As Korean Air and Asiana Airlines have increased the number of customers who cannot use the mileage due to the prolonged corona situation, they decided to extend the mileage validity for one year.

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines announced on the 18th that they had decided to expire on December 31 of next year by increasing the validity of the mileage that expires later this year after consultation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Fair Trade Commission.

This is due to the perception that it is difficult to use mileage due to the fact that the international flight has dropped 96% compared to the same period last year as of the second week of this month and the entry of foreign countries is restricted due to the blockage of the skyway with Corona 19.

Korean Air currently operates 25 out of 110 international flights, and the international flight rate is less than 20%.

Asiana Airlines also has international flights from 73 routes to 19 routes, and the number of weekly flights has decreased from 655 to 62, making the current flight rate only 9.5%.

Under the circumstances, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the FTC explained that the mileage expiration due to the expiry of the mileage expiration was negotiated.

Korean Air operates a system that expires after 10 years for mileage accumulated after July 1, 2008.

Asiana Airlines also introduced the mileage expiration system for the first time in 2008, and the mileage is gradually disappearing on January 1 of each year based on the validity period of 10 years (10 years for silver and gold members and 12 years for diamond members).

An official from Asiana Airlines said, “We decided to fully understand that it was difficult for customers to use mileage due to the significant decrease in flight operations with Corona 19.” I will do it."

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the FTC said, "We will continue to strive to protect consumers by strengthening monitoring so that there is no inconvenience in using mileage under the influence of Corona 19."

Korean Air explained that this action will allow it to be booked with mileage earned in 2010 until the itinerary departing at the end of December 2022.
