• Balearic Islands. The German tourist has returned: "They did not test me, but I come to Mallorca without fear, it is coronafree"
  • Empresas.SOS by Luis Gallego (Iberia) at the CEOE summit: "The central core of tourism is at risk"

Not all German tourists who wanted it were able to enter Mallorca yesterday . Only the 350 VIP travelers who had the safe-conduct to be included in the pilot test authorized by the Spanish government and the Balearic autonomous government did. The rest who attempted it were intercepted by the Police at Palma airport itself and forced to return to their country of origin.

During Monday, the first day of the Balearic Islands opening to tourism, a total of 25 people were forced to turn around at the security controls at Son Sant Joan airport. There were ten tourists from Munich on a flight operated by Lufthansa and fifteen other travelers from the Swiss city of Zurich.

All of them flew to Mallorca with the confusion that they could do it freely , attracted by the promotional campaign to open tourism. However, none had contracted the only two flights operated by TUI that yesterday were included in the program of the advertised tourist pilot plan and therefore had the authorization to bypass the rules that still apply throughout Spanish territory.

That is, the prohibition to fly if it is not for any of the reasons regulated by the State of Alarm (for work, health, residence reasons or for reasons of force majeure, such as the care and attention of minors or dependent persons). Among the returnees were couples and some families with children who were on vacation and who had taken their flights outside the circuit authorized by the Government. They all had to return on the same plane they had come on.

The same thing had already happened on Sunday with three passengers from Munich , two Germans and a British who were on vacation before Mallorca opened to selective tourism of the pilot plan orchestrated by the Balearic Government, a VIP program in which they are included Currently 1,400 people who will arrive this week spread over 6 flights. All of them have contracted a plane and a hotel, packages marketed by operators selected by the Government for a tourism experiment that yesterday placed Mallorca at the center of the international tourism sector.

45 people during the alarm state

Thus, during the state of alarm, 45 people have been forced to return . Of these, 28 have been repatriated against their will between Sunday and Monday. They had come attracted by the deceptive call effect caused by the international announcement of the Balearic tourism pilot plan.

And it is that, although it has been very reduced compared to the usual traffic, throughout the state of alarm international flights have continued to land in Mallorca. During the day yesterday, in addition to the two flights of German chosen who will not have to pass any quarantine and can exercise free tourism, five flights arrived (from Düsseldorf, Zurich, Cologne, Munich and Hamburg).

The passage did not have the privileges of the visitors of the pilot plan and for them the same rules apply as for the rest of Spain. In addition to having to justify the reason for arrival, they must remain in quarantine for 14 days. In total, 277 people arriving from international destinations with just cause were quarantined yesterday, a record figure since the state of emergency caused by the pandemic was decreed.

During this week, and until next Monday the borders are opened to European international traffic, the Balearic Islands will coexist with this paradox that forces foreign visitors to comply with quarantine and justify their trip as long as they do not arrive in any of the 1,400 places included in the Balearic Government experimental tourism program.
