At the microphone of Europe 1 a few hours before Emmanuel Macron's speech on Sunday, Bruno Cavagné, president of the National Federation of Public Works, looks back at the state of the construction industry at the end of the health crisis. According to him, to avoid "a collapse of construction", the head of state must announce strong measures, including a recovery plan.

INTERVIEW

Emmanuel Macron will speak and many will listen to him. For the first time since the end of confinement, the President of the Republic will address the French from the Elysée Palace this Sunday. If he should logically address the issue of the health crisis and potentially accelerate deconfinement, he will certainly announce measures to continue to come to the aid of economic players. Among them, Bruno Cavagné, president of the National Federation of Public Works. At the microphone of Europe 1 a few hours before Emmanuel Macron's speech, he called for "an emergency recovery plan" for the construction sector.

The risk of a "construction collapse"

The sector, which employs two million people in France and weighs more than 10% of the GDP, was considerably impacted by the confinement between March 17 and May 11. According to Bruno Cavagné, the post-coronavirus situation for the construction industry is contradictory. "The government asked us a few weeks ago to resume activity, but at the same time, we see what will happen in the fall if no action is taken: a collapse of construction."

"What we are asking for is an emergency recovery plan after the summer," said the president of the National Federation of Public Works, regretting that "the construction industry is always the adjustment variable". However, Bruno Cavagné points out, if the building and construction sector suffers, "it is behind additional unemployed people even though we are all over the territory". And above all, he thinks of his essential sector in the next world. "We can play a very important role in ecological transition and investment in this country," he concludes.
