Peugeot Partner & Citroën Berlingo - DR

Mandatory process in the case of large-scale mergers, the European Commission is currently examining the union of the two automobile groups. Its report is expected by June 18, but it already appears that the volume that the two groups represent on the utility market is a problem for European authorities.

Monopoly, really?

The Commission considers a company in a monopoly position when it has 40% market share. In 2019, the market shares of PSA (25.3%) and Fiat (9.1%) added together represent "only" 34.4% of the 2.2 million light commercial vehicles sold in Europe last year. Only here, Opel and Vauxhall - recently integrated into the PSA group - have a margin of progress considered important in the segment, which could therefore raise the fateful bar to the new PSA-FCA group.

Opel Combo & Vivaro - DR

Homecoming

The PSA-FCA merger would also mean the return of joint projects in this segment where the two groups were long-standing partners until 2016. The Citroën Jumper, Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer are also still jointly produced in Italy.

Fiat Ducato - DR

With the integration of Opel / Vauxhall, and the partnership concluded between PSA and Toyota, a merger with FCA would mean that identical vans would potentially be marketed under… 7 different brands (Citroën, Fiat, Opel, Peugeot, Toyota, Vauxhall and even RAM in the USA).
