Restaurateurs ask to lighten the rule of physical distance on the terrace - Thierry Le Fouille

Strongly affected by the confinement and the coronavirus crisis, the restorers are not at the end of their pain. If the restaurants are open again since June 2 in green areas, they had to put in place a health protocol. And an applied physical distance limits the number of covers available.

In the orange zone, restaurateurs are authorized to receive their customers only on the terrace, at least until June 22.

" Good news "

These regulations lead to a shortfall which the government wanted to compensate for by a decree, published in the Official Journal on Thursday, which allows the use of restaurant tickets on weekends and public holidays for a daily amount of 38 euros. Employees, who have around 1.5 billion euros via these unused payment vouchers during confinement, are therefore encouraged to support restaurateurs by being able to spend them seven days a week.

"This is very good news, it gives access to pleasure catering," says Hubert Jan, president of the catering branch at the Union of Hotel Trades and Industries (Umih). The restorers who "only operate at 50% maximum" have been asking for this decree since the end of confinement.

Relax health protocols

“We are delighted with the situation. Now, the restaurants [in the orange zone] must be open, ”reacts Marcel Benezet, president of the café-bar-brewery branch of the National Group of Independents of the Hotel and Restaurant Industry (GNI-CHR) .

Firstly, he asked that the sanitary protocol be relaxed on the terraces: “Their capacity does not allow them to make enough cutlery to live, even with the extensions authorized by the city. To the point that some breweries have decided to close after a few days. The restaurateur proposes at the same time to keep the barrier gestures, the masks for the staff and for the customers who move, and the hydroalcoholic gel, but to remove the distance between the tables: “I discussed with professor Eric Caumes [head of the infectious diseases department at Pitié-Salpêtrière] who confirmed to me that there are no risks on the terrace. "

Restaurants in Ile-de-France are waiting to reopen their interior

Sunday evening, the profession will no doubt be watching TV to follow the speech of the President of the Republic. Because for Marcel Benezet, the time has come to reopen the restaurants in the orange zone without waiting for the date of June 22: “The restaurateurs are ready and it becomes vital for them. What we are experiencing is a disaster for the sector. The bad weather that accompanied the deconfinement in particular discouraged a number of customers: "Even in the green zone, the addition of bad weather and the lack of cutlery penalized the breweries. "

Hubert Jan (Umih) abounds and crosses his fingers so that Parisian bistros, cafes, and breweries can open their doors as quickly as possible: “We have no other solution to get by. "
