The Balearic Islands are prepared to receive up to 10,900 German tourists starting next Monday, June 15 , two weeks before the borders are opened throughout Spain and when there is still no free mobility between the national territory.

The Government of Spain has authorized the Balearic Islands to launch a "pilot test" to revive tourism and project an image of a safe destination to international markets by becoming the first Spanish destination to receive foreign visitors free of quarantine.

Although the release of around 2,000 beds was initially considered, between 3,000 and 5,000 people, finally the Spanish Government allows the arrival of up to 10,900 people in stages during the second half of June.

In addition to tourists, German passengers who have a second residence in Mallorca will also be able to arrive , a very widespread demand among the German community in recent weeks.

No test

Tourists will come entirely from Germany and must not prove by prior test that they are free of coronaviruses. This country has been chosen not only because it is the main issuing market for tourists to the archipelago, but also because it presents epidemiological figures similar to those recorded in the Balearic Islands, where there have been 226 deaths out of a total population of 1.1 million inhabitants due to the impact of the Covid-19.

Travelers will answer a questionnaire prepared by the Ministry of Health on the plane and will take their temperature upon arrival at the three local airports. Then they will be contacted by phone periodically to monitor their health and give them information. In the event that they give positive symptoms, they will be referred to the local health system, having even prepared hotel establishments to be isolated there.

The arrival of the 10,900 Germans will be staggered, with two flights already scheduled for Monday of next week. They must stay a minimum of 5 nights and they are already marketing tourist packages worth between 600 and 1,000 euros per week.

Major hoteliers and the main German tour operators have played a key role in unlocking, with the giant TUI at the forefront. At the moment the plan has not been opened to British tourism due to the difference in the epidemiological situation.
