China News Agency, Beijing, June 5th (Reporter Liu Yuying) On June 6, 2019, the Chinese government issued four 5G licenses to start the 5G commercial era. On the occasion of the first anniversary, the "transcripts" of China's three major telecommunications operators show that the construction of 5G networks has accelerated and become a new engine of economic growth.

So far, China Telecom has opened more than 140,000 5G base stations, and it is expected that the number of base stations that can provide 5G services to the society at the end of the third quarter will exceed 300,000, covering all urban areas, some counties and developed townships in the country.

China Mobile has built and opened 140,000 5G base stations, and strives to complete the target of accumulating 300,000 base stations in 2020 in the third quarter to ensure 5G commercial services are provided in all prefecture-level cities across the country.

China Unicom has nearly 130,000 5G base stations currently available, covering all municipalities, major capital cities, and key cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Greater Bay Area regions. It is expected that the total scale of 5G base stations will reach 300,000 by the end of this year.

Different from 4G, 5G network is carried out by co-building and sharing. By the end of May 2020, China Unicom and China Telecom had opened a total of 115,000 shared base stations, which improved investment efficiency and optimized 5G costs.

Miao Wei, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, said earlier that despite the impact of the epidemic on 5G network construction, major operating companies are accelerating their progress, adding more than 10,000 5G base stations every week.

During the epidemic, 5G telemedicine, 5G high-definition video, 5G transportation logistics, 5G smart industry and other applications accelerated their implementation, helping to stop the spread of the epidemic, helping to resume work and production, and meeting people's social life needs.

According to China Unicom, the 5G+ medical cloud platform, 5G+ thermal imaging human temperature measurement solution, 5G inspection robot, and 5G live backpack have been widely used in combating the epidemic.

As the engine of "new infrastructure", 5G not only plays a role in stabilizing investment, but also drives the development of the entire industry chain.

China Mobile has accelerated the construction of key projects such as data centers and cloud infrastructure, planning to form three hotspot regional centers in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, three inter-provincial centers in Hohhot, Harbin, Guiyang, and several provincial-level The "3+3+X" data center layout of the center and business nodes.

China Telecom said that 5G construction has driven the prosperity of upstream and downstream industrial chains such as equipment manufacturing, terminal R&D, application development and high-end chip R&D. Over the past year, China Telecom and more than 200 5G ecological partners have established a 5G industry joint innovation center, and collaborative research and development has promoted the maturity of the 5G industry.

Yang Jie, chairman of China Mobile, suggested taking multiple measures to solve the 5G cost problem and giving telecom operators more preferential 5G policies in the areas of finance, taxation, subsidies, and assessment. (Finish)
