The use of smartphone payments is growing rapidly, but the QR codes that can be read by smartphones differ from one business to another, so stores need to prepare each code.
On the other hand, the unified QR code is compatible with 18 payment services provided by companies such as IT, communication, convenience stores, etc. Only one code needs to be newly installed and a dedicated website created by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. It means that you can apply for the payment service at once.
Also, stores that already have multiple services can combine the codes into one.
The QR code will be sent to the stores one after another from the end of next month.
Cashless payment is also mentioned as a practical example of a new lifestyle for the prevention of new coronavirus infection, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications wants to use the unified QR code to support the spread of smartphone payments.
