TUI fly reportedly wants to cut a thousand jobs and halve its fleet, sources say on Friday at Reuters news agency.

According to insiders, this concerns 270 pilots, 430 cabin crew, 190 technicians and 100 office workers. Veinigung Cockpit, the German union for pilots and cabin crew, says that the top of TUI fly should talk to the union quickly.

TUI fly includes TUI fly Belgium, TUI fly Nordic and TUI fly Netherlands. It is not known whether the job losses will also affect other companies.

A spokesman for the airline branch of the German TUI Group is said to have said that the fleet of 39 Boeing 737 aircraft should be halved. Given the current market conditions in the aviation sector, TUI fly would be able to operate with far fewer aircraft.
