The coronavirus epidemic has hit young people hard. The apprenticeship sector in particular finds itself in difficulty, because many companies plan not to recruit apprentices in 2020. A problem that will be at the center of the discussions during the meeting at the Elysée between Emmanuel Macron and the partners social.

Avoid plans for mass layoffs, offer opportunities to young people entering the job market: the government is mobilizing on the social front.

The absolute urgency is indeed young people. As every year, 700,000 of them will enter the job market at the start of the school year. By then, many will have struggled to find even one internship. And their situation is all the more difficult since, as always in times of crisis, the social partners tend to favor those who have a job, who are on permanent contracts, the "insiders" as they say, to the detriment of the "outsiders" , those looking for a place on the job market.

Several "young" measures are therefore in the pipeline and they could be implemented very quickly. In particular a general bonus for the recruitment of an apprentice. Today, it exists for companies with less than 250 employees. The idea would be to extend it beyond. Apprenticeship training periods could also be extended.

The idea is also to avoid the divide between the generations.

Yes, this is a key subject for Emmanuel Macron. Young people already face triple punishment. They bear the brunt of the debt left by the retiring generations. They will have to bear the "ecological debt" to finance the fight against climate change for which they are not responsible. And the Covid-19 crisis will add a huge additional debt burden to them. In short, on top of all this, young people, including young graduates, should not find any outlet. Nothing would be worse than a "sacrificed generation".
