During confinement, the French notably changed their eating habits. A study published Wednesday reveals the list of products that were heavily consumed during this period, with many differences from one department to another.

During confinement, in the absence of a canteen or restaurant, the French consumed differently, and logically certain products were "over-consumed". It was not only flour or eggs, a Nielsen study for Le Journal du Net , which Europe 1 unveils this morning, reveals many differences in consumption according to the departments.

During the eight weeks of confinement, at the top of the top 10 of the most "over-consumed" products we find household gloves and soaps in more than 90% of the departments, with a rush for soap in particular in Mayenne and in Jura. The French have also spent a lot of time in the kitchen, this is confirmed in the figures: the flagship product, obviously it is flour, everywhere in France but especially in Loire-Atlantique.

The influence of weather on consumption

And then, there are some local specificities, certain products were overconsumed only in 2 or 3 departments, consequence of the mild temperatures noted Sébastien Monard, spokesperson of the Nielsen cabinet and consumer specialist: "We have products, barbecue lighters, for example, the ice which has been rising sharply and more markedly in certain departments, experiencing summer weather earlier than usual. The impact was much stronger in these departments " . This is why sausages have been over-consumed in the Vosges and Haut-Rhin.

The pasta does not appear in this list because the peak purchase took place during the three weeks preceding the confinement, the French had therefore already stored a lot. And then to toast, in moderation but a little more than usual, gin was the most "overconsumed" drink in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Pyrénées-Orientales.
