  • Tourism: People arriving from abroad to Spain will have to be quarantined for 14 days

Germany will raise the recommendation on the 15th of not to travel in the Schengen area if the coronavirus pandemic continues to evolve favorably. This global warning not to travel, in force since mid-March, will be eliminated in the middle of this month for 25 of the 26 partners of the European Union (EU), and only Spain is excluded, as a counterpart to the mandatory 14-day quarantine that The Government of Pedro Sánchez has established for international travelers arriving in our country and that it will be in force until July 1.

In addition to the 25 European partners, three of the four partners in the Schegen area - all except Norway - and the United Kingdom will also benefit from this measure .

"Spain and Norway are expected to allow tourists to enter somewhat later, but once they make the decision, we will apply it immediately," said the German head of Foreign Affairs, the Social Democrat Heiko Mass , after the decision approved this Wednesday by the Council of Ministers . Maas expects Spain to lift its restrictions on June 21, which would allow Germans to travel to their preferred tourist destination.

The decision has had an immediate response from his Spanish counterpart, Minister Arancha González Laya , who has written a message on the Twitter social network in which he claims to have spoken with Heiko Mass and "we have agreed that as soon as Spain allows entry of tourists in its territory, #Germany will raise the recommendation not to travel to Spain #reciprocity ".

Mass warned in mid-March against foreign travel to its citizens. As of June 15, Foreign Affairs will go from that generalized recommendation to giving information on the epidemiological situation in each country, so that it is the citizen who values the risks.

The lifting of the recommendation not to travel abroad has occurred in line with those announced by Chancellor Angela Merkel and the times established as a reference in accordance with the European Commission. It would be done in a coordinated manner and, as a first step, in the European Union, in order to restore as soon as possible the right to freedom of movement guaranteed by the Union and favor the single market.

The decision will therefore affect the 26 EU countries, to which the United Kingdom and the associated countries have added the Schegen area, in this case Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Travel to the rest of the world remains, for the time being, among the non-recommended destinations.

The trips to Asia and the United States , for now, remain, for the time between destinations not recommended.

In the decision taken by the Government it is clear, however, that the measure may be reversed in certain countries or regions if the number of new Covid-19 cases skyrockets. For Germany, the barometer is at 50 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in a 7-day period. In the event that this red line is exceeded, the German Government reserves the right to apply protective measures for its citizens, and will therefore be alert to the epidemiological situation in general and in tourist areas in particular.
