The Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi issued a circular banning the export of iron and paper waste by related companies registered in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, temporarily for a period of four months, renewable.

The department’s representative, Rashid Abdul Karim Al Balushi, said that the decision aims to achieve business continuity with local factories and support the local product, in a way that ensures providing local dealers with the necessary production inputs for manufacturing operations, within the framework of supporting local private sector companies to face the repercussions of the "Covid-19" virus. .

He affirmed that the implementation of the Ministry of Economy’s decision in this regard comes within the framework of supporting the national economy by contributing to the diversity of its sources, and providing all raw materials and production inputs to companies operating in the country, especially small and medium ones, which were affected by the repercussions of the pandemic “Covid-19”, especially its ability to Importing raw materials from abroad.

Al-Balooshi said that the decision to ban iron and paper waste comes to preserve these important sources that are involved in the production of local industries.

He revealed that during the year 2019, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi exported more than 6,163 tons of iron waste, compared to 1590 tons in 2018, while 29 tons and 530 kg of paper waste were exported last year, compared to two tons and 230 kg in 2018, according to customs data in Abu Dhabi.
