The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority revealed that male and female citizens represented 5.95% of the total number of employees working in service and consumer cooperative societies at the end of 2019, with a total of 775 male and female citizens.

The authority clarified in a report issued yesterday about "cooperative societies in the state" that the number of non-national employees working in these societies amounted to 12 thousand and 246 employees, or 94.05% of the total employees, bringing the total number of employees from citizens and non-citizens to 13 thousand and 21 employees .

Citizens and non-citizens

The report pointed out that the number of citizens working in cooperative societies increased by 10.8% during 2019 compared to 2018, an increase of 76 citizens, noting that the number of citizens in cooperative societies at the end of 2018 amounted to 699 citizens, or 5.3% of the total number of employees.

According to the report, the number of non-citizens working in cooperative societies during the year 2019 decreased by 1.6% compared to 2018, as they numbered 205 workers, reaching 12,246 people compared to 12,451 workers at the end of 2018.

Number of associations

The report revealed that the total number of service and consumer cooperative societies in the country, at the end of 2019, reached 41 cooperative societies compared to 40 societies in 2018.

These societies were divided between 19 consumer societies, two federations, 13 fishermen societies, three service consumer societies, a housing association, one service, one craft and one rental.

Consumer societies accounted for 46.3% of the total number of societies in the country, while fishermen societies accounted for 31.7%, while the rest was distributed among other types of societies.

According to the report, Abu Dhabi ranked first in terms of the total number of associations registered 18 associations, followed by Dubai and Sharjah, which registered seven associations in each, while Fujairah registered three associations, and Ajman and Ras al-Khaimah and Umm al-Quwain registered two associations in each.
