They want to avoid a "health and social disaster". Several associations of the unemployed and precarious workers, as well as trade unions, are calling for a "white year" for the unemployed in a letter addressed to the government. The latter is notably signed by AC! (acting together against unemployment and precariousness), the national collective of workers deprived of employment and precarious workers (MNCP), the union SNU Pôle emploi, the collective of precarious hotel and catering events (CPHR).

“We are measuring the disaster that is happening. It is essential that you hear it and take these emergency measures, ”write fifteen associations, unions and collectives.

"No exceptional protective measures"

"Thousands of contract workers (fixed-term or fixed-term contracts), temporary workers, temporary workers, intermittent workers have seen their assignments stopped or not renewed and will not see them renewed" , they explain. And to continue: "Whole sectors of the economy - hotels, catering, culture, tourism, sports ... - are already at a standstill without knowing within what period and what proportions they will be able to resume their activity".

“These precarious workers who ordinarily live only from their work, did not benefit from exceptional protection measures during confinement and only survived thanks to the food solidarity organized by the citizens and town halls, ”they add.

No cancellation requested

They demand, among other things, "a white year", that is to say "the extension over one year of all the rights of the unemployed", that there be no cancellation during the period, but also that be repealed the unemployment insurance reform, the second part of which is postponed. This part, which hardens the calculation of the allowance for precarious workers, alternating short contracts and periods of unemployment, was indeed postponed from April 1 to September 1.

The government recently indicated that it was going to start thinking "to quickly adapt" the unemployment insurance rules, "beyond the measures to extend rights already taken", without providing details. With regard to intermittents du spectacle, the President of the Republic promised that their rights would be "extended by one year", beyond the six months when their activity had been "impossible or very degraded", that is to say - say "until the end of August 2021".
