The Minister of Economy Bruno Le Maire, invited Friday from Europe 1, assured that the Flins factory will not close, but that its production could be the subject of a reconversion. Words that do not reassure the workers of the site, far from it.

"Flins shouldn't close." Invited Friday morning of Europe 1, Bruno Le Maire returned to the difficulties of the Renault group, very weakened by the health crisis of the coronavirus. According to information from Europe 1, the manufacturer could close at least three sites: Choisy-le-Roi, the Foundries of Brittany and the Dieppe factory. And if the Flins factory does not close, automobile production could however be shut down to devote the site to another activity.

The factory workers were therefore not reassured by the minister's remarks on Friday, far from it. "We are not reassured. If Flins does not manufacture a vehicle, there is no job for the 4,200 people ... The denial must be accompanied by a project", claims Thierry Guonot, CGT union representative , at the microphone of Europe 1. He fears that many employees will stay on the job.

"It's a factory that has proven itself"

Especially since the employees are already living in uncertainty since the group's announcement on February 14 of a savings plan of two billion euros over three years. He must reveal the outlines on May 29. "The important thing is that this plan is accompanied by a strategy. We look forward to what will be presented to clarify the situation on the implementation and impact of these savings," said Mariette Rih, delegate Union Force Ouvrière at Renault.

For her, it is "impossible to think" that the Flins factory could "disappear from the region's employment pool". "It is an old factory, which has proven itself. Whatever the recovery plan, the future of the Flins factory must be based on experience and skills," she underlines.

"Renault can disappear"

After having recorded its first net loss in ten years in 2019, Renault was further weakened by the coronavirus crisis which paralyzed its factories and its network. Its European deliveries fell 79% in April. "Renault can disappear, we must be lucid," said the Minister of Economy on Friday on Europe 1, adding: "I have never hidden the gravity of the crisis, and I do not hide the gravity of the situation of Renault.
